Festivals and Parades

The Red Hills Festival and Car Show

Held on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend in Louisville, this festival showcases regional artwork, offers great food and entertainment, and has a fun run, 5 K run and a 5 mile walk/run.  The car show offers trophies in a variety of open classes.

This year’s festival will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 28th.

The Stew Stomp

Held on the Saturday before Veteran’s Day in downtown Louisville, the Stomp begins with a Veteran’s Day Parade and program. The Stew Stomp has great food, competitive cooking, and local entertainment. Attendees can buy tickets and take part in tasting and judging the dishes.

The Cotton Gin Festival and Car Show

The show attracts large number of car exhibitors, whose entries are evaluated by a team led by a certified car show judge. The festival offers craft exhibits and sales, entertainment, and food.  The Cotton Gin Festival and Car Show is held in September in Noxapater.

Fourth of July

Highlights are a kids’ parade in downtown Louisville and a fireworks display in the evening.

Christmas Parade

Louisville businesses, residents, and organizations participate in a parade down Main Street in early December.

Legion State Park

Legion State Park features trails, picnic areas, a playground, visitor’s center, camping areas, cabins, and a lake. A day use fee per vehicle applies.

Ivy Park

Located in Louisville on Ivy Avenue by the recently renovated coliseum, this park has baseball and softball fields, tennis courts, and a walking track.

Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge

This 48,000-acre refuge consists primarily of  bottomland and upland forests, and is home to a wide range of wildlife species.  The Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge includes two major lakes: Bluff Lake, 800 acres in area, and Loakfoma Lake, at 400 acres. These and other water areas, such as four green-tree reservoirs, 16 small impoundments, and assorted wetland areas furnish habitat for bald eagles, wood storks, American alligators, and wintering waterfowl.  Game species include quail, deer, and turkey, and hunting is allowed in certain areas. The endangered red-cockaded woodpecker can be found on the Refuge, and many neotropical birds live in the forests.

Historic Sites

Nanih Waiya Historical Site

The park site is the legendary birthplace of the Choctaw Indian nation and the site of their sacred mound, Nanih Waiya.

Winston County Economic Development District Partnership House

The 1851 house that houses the Partnership was originally used as the Masonic hall. Wings were added in the late 1800’s when the hall was used for the Louisville Normal School.

Historic District in Louisville

The historic district includes Park Street and Columbus Avenue, which are lined with beautiful antebellum homes built in the mid-1800s.

Strand Theatre

This historic theater in downtown Louisville was constructed in 1923. Today it hosts Grammy award-winner Carl Jackson’s annual Christmas show and other cultural events.

The East Mississippi Fall Classic Horse Show is held at the Louisville Coliseum in October.
